Walk-in showers are also cheaper to build as you don't have the expense of a bathtub.

They've chose to a Wedi Fundo Lingo shower pan, which is specifically engineered for walk-in shower tub enclosures. It can be ordered in pre-cut sizes or cut to fit your specific needs. These shower pans are designed for use with wood subfloors and there is no need to build up more height or mess with leveling, as they have a predefined uniform slope that ensures proper drainage. Use thinset mortar to secure the pan to the floor and then start working on the interior walls of the shower.

This second video demonstrates how the interior walls and ceiling of the walk-in shower are installed. The Wedi shower pan has a dado groove around the edges that makes sliding in a wall board much easier. Instead of using cement board, they stayed with the Wedi system and installed their building board material which is waterproof, lighter than cement board, and can be cut with a utility knife.

Once the waterproof enclosure is built, it's time for tile, which can be put down within a half hour of installing the panels. 

An experienced contractor was able to install a walk-in shower in half a day (minus the tile), so with the help of these videos a motivated DIYer could tackle this project in a weekend and might even have the tile installed before Monday.
