How to Slip-Proof a Bathtub

A fair amount of home accidents occur when slipping in the bathtub. A wet and smooth surface is a combination for disaster, especially for the elderly or people with balance problems. Falling in a bathtub may result in harmful injuries that may have been averted with the use of nonslip bath mats or decals that stick to the bathtub floor. Keep your family safe by installing products that provide a rough and nonslip surface to your bathtub.

Things You'll Need

  • Towel

  • Nonslip bath decals

Nonslip Bathtub Mat Plug the drain hole in the bathtub. Run enough warm water to wet the entire bottom of the tub. Hold the nonslip mat over the bathtub flooring with the suction cup side facing down. Center the mat before placing it onto the floor. Lay the mat onto the bathtub floor. Starting at one end of the mat, push the suction cups into the floor. Work your way down the mat, pressing until all suction cups bond firmly to the tub floor. Nonslip Bathtub Decals Spray the bathtub with a bathroom cleaner. Wipe the cleaner from the tub with a damp sponge. Dry the bathtub with a clean towel. Arrange the decals in a pattern on the bathtub floor. This way you will know where to place each applique. Space the decals 5 to 6 inches apart. Peel off the backing on the decal to expose the adhesive side. Press it firmly onto the bathtub floor. Smooth the decal with the palm of your hand to push out any air bubbles.
