Mystery still surrounds the death of a pregnant Sydney hairdresser after her body was found six years ago.

In a blow to Alyce Pollett's family, the New South Wales State Coroner has been unable to determine how she died.

Her family remains convinced the 20-year-old was murdered.

Leoni Pollett found her heavily pregnant granddaughter dead in her Miranda unit in 2011.

Police suspected foul play – so did her family.

"I loved her," Leoni Pollett said outside the Coroners Court.

"I was due to have my great grandchild in two months. So excited. I go to work and come home and she's dead."

The baby's father, Ahmed Laa Laa, had tried blackmailing Alyce into having an abortion but has always denied killing her.

Today the coroner ruled that "while the possibility that the death was intentionally caused by someone unknown to Alyce can't be discounted” that could not “be proven or the person responsible identified".

Three months before her death, Alyce allegedly told her local GP that the father of her unborn baby had threatened to kill her if she didn't terminate the pregnancy.

Her doctor advised her to take out an apprehended violence order, but she did not go to police.

However, she did tell police she was robbed and kicked in the stomach by two girls a month later as she was leaving a Pizza Hut store.

The police investigation remains open.
