How to Fix a Leaking Bathroom Faucet

Gambar
A dripping faucet is one of those chores that tend to get pushed to the bottom of the “honey-do” list. It’s not dangerous, like a sparking electrical outlet . It’s not super-annoying, like a Justin Bieber song , or a smoke detector that wants new batteries, and reminds you by chirping loudly every 30 seconds, ALL NIGHT LONG. It might seem a little intimidating, because you have to move the 247 containers of shampoo and conditioner and toilet cleaner and sponges and razor blades and feminine hygiene products from under the sink, so you can shut the water off. You then have to figure out how to take the faucet apart, and then actually go find the right parts and put the stupid thing back together. All this can lead to a decision to just let the leaking bathroom faucet keep on leaking. Deep in your environmentally responsible heart , though, you know that’s the wrong decision, and it’s really a pretty simple fix . Take heart, and follow our simple guide to fix YOUR leaking bathroom fau...

How to Replace a Shower Diverter - Bob Vila Radio

Gambar
You know that little knob on top of the bathtub spout? It’s tiny but not insignificant, as it performs the vital role of directing water either to the tub or to the shower head. Photo: fotosearch.com mp3 file Listen to BOB VILA ON REPLACING A SHOWER DIVERTER  or read the text below: If you pull the diverter and see only a few drops of water—or none at all—come out of the shower head, then you likely need a new tub spout and diverter. Luckily, such components are fairly inexpensive and easy to install. Start by inspecting the underside of your existing tub spout . Look for a small hole and a set screw. If you find one, remove the screw with a screwdriver, after having covered the drain to prevent the piece from disappearing down the pipe. Once you’ve removed the screw, twist and pull the spout straight out until it clears the copper supply pipe . Couldn’t find a set screw on the tub spout? That means the spout threads directly onto the supply line. To remove it, use a pipe wrench, turn...

marble tile thin-set mortar sanded grout unsanded grout fixtures screws wet saw notched trowel level tape measure electric screwdriver spacers pencil sanding block mask rubber grout float sponge safety glasses broom buckets tile nippers 1. Once demolition of the old tile is complete, install a cement backer board in the shower area. Have a professional install a shower membrane and shower pan appropriate for the space. In our project, the shower pan is poured concrete. Save time by setting several tiles at once. Before you start setting tile , take some measurements and see how the tiles will all lay out. 2. In our project, we used Crema Marfil, an Italian tumbled marble tile . The tiles come in different sizes, pre-spaced on mats. On the ceiling and floor of the shower, we used 2"x2" tiles and on shower walls, 2"x4" tiles. In our project, we set the tile for the wall opposite the shower door first. Measure the top and bottom of the shower wall (ours is 82...

Phil, We just purchased a replacement electric water heater

Marc the plumber : Hello and thank you for using JA.com. I will assist you today with your question to the best of my ability. Marc the plumber : Many times with replacement of seats and washers it takes time for the washers to mold and form to the seat. I always recommend working the handle back and forth and snug very tightly to ensure it forms properly. Marc the plumber : As for the leak down the wall...is it leaking around the handles? Most likely the packing nuts are Too loose and need tightening. The packing nuts are directly behind the handle ( the first nut on the stem) Marc the plumber : To tighten the packing nut I recommend removing the handle, turn the faucet on half way and then tighten the packing. Marc the plumber : Its ok that you did not replace the spout Customer: It's been 2 weeks. I've been working the handles but it's not helping. I've tried tightening down the packing nuts but if I tighten them too hard, the faucets can't turn. Customer: I...

Dealing with nasty grout & caulk in the apartment bathroom.

Gambar
Remember the pinkish-tan/Band-Aid bathroom in my apartment? I’m still doing the best I can (short of gutting the whole thing) to make it feel cleaner, fresher and generally less awful, and my latest improvement measure was taking care of the undeniably revolting perma - mildew situation inside the bathtub/shower area. I realize the photo above might not look like much of an “after,” but let’s consider where we started: I know. It was really gross. Believe me, even after scrubbing everything with bleach and hot water, this was as clean as it got. There were loose tiles (hence the taped-up garbage bag, an attempt to keep water from getting inside of the wall) and failing grout, and nearly all of the caulk had gone permanently black . The outer layer of caulk was actually clear silicone, and I’m thinking the mildew likely came from the first layer of caulk having been applied over even older “infected” caulk without properly preparing the area first. Want to take a closer look? I’m sor...

A Custom Six-Pac - Truck Camper Magazine

Gambar
Ken “Bear” Iddins of Buffalo Hats reveals his unique eight-foot custom Six- Pac shell model with an extremely custom, tricked-out, and modified interior.  Are those really stained glass windows ? Many of us have dreamed of designing and building our own truck camper.  One moment you’re sitting in your dinette looking at the kitchen thinking, “Why didn’t they put another cabinet right there?” and the next you’re drawing a truck camper floor plan on a napkin.  We have certainly inked a few ideas this way over the years.  Then the reality the of cost and time involved in such an endeavor hit us.  If truck campers could be built in Photoshop, we would make the world’s greatest truck camper .  Until then, we’re probably just dreaming. Then again, what if we could buy a shell and then have it custom up-fitted to our exact specifications?  That eliminates the need to design and build the exterior structure and allows us to ...
