A DIY Shower Curtain

Gambar
W hat do you get when you mix a roll of brown and white grosgrain ribbon with a waffle weave extra - long shower curtain ? Something really special and pretty for a newly done bathroom.  I found this ribbon at  Hobby Lobby and after seeing this Target extra- long shower curtain that Young House Love used in their bathroom, I had to order one for my new bath.  I’m liking the simplicity of this waffle weave fabric and I didn’t want a plain normal sized shower curtain for this room.  The ceilings in here are 9 feet, so the extra tall just looks better in this space. My niece, Lauren, was sweet and monogrammed the middle of it for me on her handy-dandy machine.  Love it, thank you, Lauren!  That’s my Christmas present and I couldn’t be happier with it.  So, all I did was lay out the shower curtain , measured in 6 inches (thought that was a good amount in) and started laying out the ribbon.  I used the lines in the waffle fabric to follow a straight line, gluing with fabric glue as I ...

Kids Bathroom Makeover

Gambar
There are a few (i.e. many) spots in my home that are in need of a little love and attention right now.  We are furiously working away at a big bedroom makeover for my daughter(s) and I can’t wait to share more on that soon, but another room that has been bothering me is my kids bathroom.  When we moved into our home 6 years ago , we put up the shower curtain we previous had, a few matching towels and that was it.  A couple of years ago we added white wood paneling to the bathroom which completely changed the look and I just love it!  Then later we changed our shower head, faucet and added other fixtures and a safety bar as well .  We have also added a pretty light to the room  and a  frame over our mirror.  So we have done quite a few things to update the space, but I never loved it and it just became a dumping ground for all my kids stuff.  So this past weekend I decided that I was going to finally tackle the room and so today I am really excited to share my Kids Bathroom Makeove...

Shower Curtain Design & Progress

Gambar
March 8, 2013 22 Comments *Post contains affiliate links. I was so certain that I’d have my shower curtain done by today, but it just didn’t happen.  Part of the reason is that I spent (wasted) probably two good hours just still trying to decide what the heck I wanted to do.  I would try something, not like it, unpin everything, and start over. I finally decided to just stick pretty closely to the design from Canadian House and Home. Mine will have a band of this yellow striped fabric at the top, with the stripes going vertically… The main body of the shower curtain will be white.  (I used an extra queen-sized sheet for that part.  )  Then there will be anywhere from three to five rows of ruffles at the bottom. Actually, I had a hard time deciding between ruffles and pleats.  I love the look of ruffles (just not too many of them!!), but when it comes down to it, I’m really more of a pleat kind of person.  I prefer tailored over frilly.  But since I didn’t have enough fabric to d...

9 Things In Your Bathroom You Probably Aren't Cleaning Enough

Gambar
I’m sure we all have our own routines when it comes to cleaning the bathroom. I usually start with the toilet, then move to the shower, then address the sink, mirror, and floors. In fact, if I can clean all of those in one go, I’m probably feeling really productive! But beyond those weekly maintenance cleanings , there’s definitely more we should be doing. Bathrooms have the potential to become the dirtiest room in the house if left unchecked, due to the unique combination of warmth, humidity, and bacteria that congregate there. But with just a few basic cleaning supplies , it’s easy to keep your bathroom (and the things you store in there) clean and healthy. Here are 9 common bathroom items that could probably use a cleaning. 1. Bath Toys Bath toys can build up layers of soap scum and mildew if they aren’t being cleaned. A quick soak with some vinegar will take care of that! Just put your bath toys into a bucket, then fill with warm water and add 1 cup of white vinegar . Let the toys...
