Installing a new shower? Unless you’re getting a walk-in shower or a bathtub/shower insert — which sometimes only requires a shower curtain — you’ll need to select a type of shower door. Here’s some information to help you choose. Sliding Shower Doors Sliding shower doors , also referred to as bypass doors, take up the least bathroom space of any type of shower door because they never expand inside or outside the shower. They typically consist of two to three panels that slide past each other on tracks along the top and bottom of the door. Because sliding shower doors come with at least two panels, they’re best used in wide shower openings measuring at least 60 inches. Framed sliding shower doors at a quarter- inch glass thickness , uninstalled, typically cost $175 to $500. Round Shower Doors Round shower doors , unlike most other types, open inward. They are ideal for corner showers. The curved glass gives you more elbow room, and the lack of a corner gives your bathroom more open...

Shattered! The danger hanging in your bathroom

Gambar
I had just finished showering and turned off the water. Soaking wet, I did what millions of Americans do every day -- I reached for my snazzy sliding glass shower door . Seconds later, glass was raining down on me. The door had failed somehow and exploded into a million little pieces. The sound was hideous, something between nails on a chalkboard and a torrential downpour. Only this didn't make me wet, it made me bloody. This was the grisly scene in my bathroom after a shower door exploded on me while I showered. I bled substantially from a wound on my right foot and had to walk on glass to get out. Glass shower doors are a substantial upgrade from old, mold- magnet plastic shower curtains found in many older homes. They look great. They let ambient light into the shower and make the bathroom look larger. If you have fancy tile rimming your tub, they show that off. The aesthetics come with a cost however, as I recently learned the hard way: Glass shower and tub enclosures ca...

How to Clean Glass Shower Doors (the easy way!)

Gambar
Everybody has their own ways of cleaning.  I have noticed that people have different ideas of clean.  And I have really noticed this as I have looked around the internet (Hello, Pinterest!) to find solutions to household cleaning questions .  I often run into “solutions” that just don’t work for my housekeeping problem.  My latest problem was our spotty, streaky, hard water stained glass shower .  You might not have noticed it immediately upon stepping into my bathroom, but I hated how spotty my glass shower was.  Mind you, it was really upon close inspection, that you would have noticed my clear problem.  And so I went to the internet to solve all my household problems.  What I wanted was “like-new” shower glass .  What I got, was not!  And I tried a LOT of solutions. And then my nerd cleaning buddy , Gil (a car glass repairman ) and I were talking cleaning one day (as you do) and he gave me a discourse (seriously!) on the best products for cleaning glass .  I was overwhelmed by his e...

Shower door needs bath, sunken tub needs shower - News - Ocala.com

BY ED DEL GRANDEHGTVPRO .COM Q: Hi, Ed. Your column is a wonderful home improvement resource and I need some information! I have a clear glass shower door (Well, it used to be clear glass) and it has mineral deposits from the water all over it. It's practically all foggy glass now! I have tried all kinds of glass cleaners and nothing seems to work. Do you have any suggestions for me? Thanks for your time and help. - Karla, Florida A: Karla, you are not alone; most people with clear glass shower doors complain about water spots on the shower glass. The reason is that clear glass is a very unforgiving surface for a shower door and will highlight almost every drop of water or debris on the door. A door that can hide water spots and droplets will be easier to keep clean because it tends to cover up the water spots instead of highlighting them. Plus, it will offer a little more privacy while ...
