How to make that morning workout routine a reality

You’d probably love to be one of those people who consistently exercise after work. But life gets in the way — kids, work, social commitments — and your daily fitness routine goes out the window. A morning workout routine seem like an obvious answer, but how do you actually, you know, do it? Sleep is your friend Yes, you can turn yourself into an early riser. But not overnight. “It’s possible, but you have to adjust gradually,” says Dianne Augelli, a fellow of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and a professor of medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York. “The body can take an hour or less of [ sleep schedule ] change,” Augelli says. If you normally go to sleep at midnight and get up at 8 a.m., you will not feel rested if you suddenly switch your bedtime to 9 p.m. and get up at 5 a.m. (The American Sleep Association recommends seven to nine hours of sleep per night for adults.) You probably won’t be able to make yourself go to sleep that early anyway, Augelli ...

Mandarin Oriental Spa in Las Vegas offers sunshine, yoga and so much more

Gambar
Looks like we can steal some decorating tips from the spa at Mandarin Oriental. Here you’ ll find 1930s Shanghai -inspired artwork throughout the gorgeous facility. All photos coutesy of Mandarin Oriental. Heading to the spa? It should be a refreshing experience. You shouldn’t feel like you’re trapped in a dark cave. We get that it’s one way  to escape and relax, but you want to feel rejuvenated too. Plus, dim lighting and dark corners sound more like elements of a scary movie than a spa day. So we need light. Lots of it. That’s why we love the award-winning Forbes Five-Star spa at Mandarin Oriental . Measuring more than 25,000 square feet, this two- level spa offers natural lighting from its multiple floor-to-ceiling windows. Whether you’re lounging in the relaxation area , unwinding during a spa treatment or breaking a sweat during a yoga session, the sunlight greets you everywhere. This is just one of the reasons we’re so in love with this Las Vegas spa. See why we dream of stayin...

The Waddle's Not So Cute Anymore

It's the final countdown -- fast approaching single -digit weeks -- before you get to meet your baby and coo over those tiny fingers and toes. Unfortunately, tiny isn't the word that comes to mind these days. The homestretch can be, well, a stretch. Itchy bellies, achy backs, swollen ankles, hemorrhoids -- you name the annoyance, and some expectant mom probably feels it. The real remedy, of course, is childbirth. But since that option is still a bit premature, we asked an obstetrician, a midwife, and a family practitioner to share their best trade secrets for surviving the common aches and pains of the third trimester. Our experts: Owen Montgomery, MD, assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology at University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia; Stephanie Lowell, a certified nurse midwife in Phoenix, Ariz.; and. Bruce Bagley, MD, a family-practice physician in Latham, N.Y., and former president of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Make sure to talk...

Tiling above bath/shower advice?

craig1410 posted on 13/2/11 at 01:36 PM Tiling above bath/shower advice? Hi guys, Been searching the web in general on this topic and there seems to be 12 opinions for every aspect of tiling, ALL of them 110% correct, tried and tested over 140 years of tiling experience... I'm more confused now than when I started! Anyway, I'm installing a complete new bathroom suite and have done the plumbing, subfloor, vinyl covering, toilet and basin so far. I've also tiled the wall behind the basin and it's pretty decent. Tiles are ceramic 361x276x9mm with a stone effect print . The backs are ribbed 'biscuit' (I think that's what it's known as anyway) type. I'm using Mapei BuildFix flexible tile adhesive along with the matching acrylic wall primer/sealer and flexible grout . I've also got some grout sealer. I'm tiling onto plasterboard (the green coloured stuff) which has been repaired and sealed with the acrylic primer mentioned above. Nex...

Baby Products I Adore | Daily Dish Recipes

Having a baby comes with having a lot of “stuff”.  And by “stuff” I mean things to take care of baby, for baby to play with, chew on, drool on, eat, poop in and of course sleep in/with. There are lists out there telling you all the things you need for having baby. And that’s all fine and dandy, but what about products that mom’s love that aren’t necessarily a standard item. Or what about what KIND of that item they love or swear by? These are few of my lastest favorites for baby and why. We have used each and every one of these things with Carsyn, and I’m so glad I have them. 1. Car Baby Mirror . We have tried a lot of these out, and found that there are several things that you need to look for. First, construction. You want to make sure it’s made of strong materials and that it attaches securely on the seat or you will constantly be fixing it. Second, size. These are not created equal. The larger the mirror the better you can see baby while you’re driving. We love this car baby mir...

The 6 best tutorials on how to convert a dresser into a bathroom vanity

After posting my revised layout for the bathroom  and considering your comments, I am thinking more about the size of the shower.   I like my new layout, but there is only so much space to work with. I’m afraid the shower might not be large enough — and making it larger would force a smaller vanity. Originally, I wanted to convert a 52- inch retro dresser — which I scored on craigslist for $25 — into my master bath vanity . I still like the idea, but I’m also thinking about other options. Regardless of what I end up doing, I still did the research. I went online, reviewed about 15 different tutorials, and narrowed them down to the ...
