Master Bath Materials
Selecting finishes for a new master bath. I am thinking that we will just do 60" shower since there is already a bathtub in the house and this would make the home more accessible if there is someone with mobility purchasing it down the line, but we could easily do a bathtub as well.
I think black/blue slate floor would be gorgeous and fit well with the style of the home, and i found some affordable tile in a 6x24" size that would be more interesting than 12X12.
For the vanity, we could technically fit a 60" vanity but it would really crowd the bathroom i think, so i was going to use this espresso vanity, and maybe switch out hardware for brushed nickel to keep in line with rest of house.
For the shower, i originally found this MAXX Utile Marble Carrera surround, that is not real marble... they will save us money on the install, but will they look tacky since id be using real stone for the floor (the slate)? Or would they be ok since we're not trying to match it to real marble, and the top on the vanity is white manufactured stone anyways.
This is the bathroom right now, we combined two small bathrooms to make a nice size master suite. The vanity will go on the left wall (directly in front of where i am standing to take this pic), as you can see there is nice natural light from the window there, and the shower will be tucked into that alcove on the right.
Hoping for some feedback -- are the finishes too dark? Should I just go with ceramic or porcelain tile instead of slate? Should we just go with plastic shower surround? - I would love to tile the surround, of course, but the cost of labor for the install will be too high. This is a home in New England, and I believe it fits closest to a transitional style, with dark finishes in the kitchen, oak floors, carpet and some ceramic tile.
This pic is much more modern than I am going for, but the slate with brown vanity & white tile looks pretty.
