Scotch-Brite Cleaning Challenge: Bathroom

I absolutely adore a clean home.  But the second one thing gets out of place, or I notice one water spot on the bathroom mirror, you better hope that I’m having a good day.  If not, it’s going to be time for a showdown.

Okay, I may not be that bad (you’d have to ask my hubby and kiddos), but I’m pretty adamant on keeping a well organized, extremely clean home.

With five people living in our house, three of them being age 10 and younger, sometimes, okay a lot of the time, that’s hard.  The children don’t fully understand why it’s not acceptable to leave their shoes laying wherever they took them off, or why little bitty LEGO pieces need to be put away as soon as their done playing with them.  Obviously, they’ve never stepped on one of those boogers in the middle of the night while running to see what’s wrong with a crying child.

But, I digress.

I’ve been working with Scotch-Brite on various cleaning challenges throughout my home.  The first challenge was the dreaded ring around the coffee mug and the second was dishes. Check out those posts to see how other Scotch-Brite products helped me tackle those.

When we moved to our brand new home a little over a year ago, it didn’t take long to figure out we had hard water.  You know, the kind of water that leaves spots on your dishes, orange residue on your shower and toilets, and wreaks havoc on your clothes.  It overall just makes cleaning a total nightmare.

But today, we are going to focus on the shower.  Mainly because I hate it.  With its glass doors that constantly require daily rub-downs, the grout between the tiles that insist on harboring mildew and calcium build up…we won’t even go there.

I know y’all, it’s totally yucky and I’m just a teeny bit embarrassed that I’m showing you my horrific shower.  But, there’s hope folks.  With the right cleaning tools and a husband who doesn’t mind getting his hands dirty in the bathroom, you can have a spic ‘n span shower in no time.

To clean the shower, my husband used the Scotch-Brite Grout & Detail Tool, Comfort Grip Scrub Brush, and Twin-Blade Squeegee.  There are more products in the Scotch-Brite arsenal that you can use, but these worked fantastic for him.

Having the proper tools makes the job so much easier.  The Grout and Detail Tool makes it a breeze to get all the yuckies out of the grout.  The stiff bristles do most of the work for you and the light coating on the head of the tool makes it easier for gripping.  The Comfort Grip Brush features two levels of bristles to clean up any mess.  The  handle makes it easy to hold on to.  And last, but certainly not least, the Twin-Blade Squeegee is a must have if you have a glass shower.  Instead of wiping it down with a towel and leaving streaks, we now use the squeegee after each time we shower to help eliminate water spots and make deep cleans easier.

Next up is the vanity.  This isn’t nearly as difficult to keep clean, but there are some products that can make it easier.  The Absorbent Vanity Cloth absorbs like a sponge but cleans very similar to that of a cloth.  It picks up hair, makeup, etc. and can be machine washed making it reusable time and time again.  The Streak-Free Mirror Cloth gives you a lint-free clean in seconds.  It can also be used on glass.  And, like the Absorbent Vanity Cloths, it’s reusable.

Let’s be honest here, the bathtub can be a devil to clean.  I have a huge tub that is elevated a bit so cleaning it isn’t on my list of favorite things to do.  I can’t sit on my knees to clean it because it’s too high, so it requires me to lean over and scrub.  Using the Scotch-Brite Bath Scrubberat least makes it easy to keep the scrubber in my hand.  I’ve really come to love handles, y’all.  I can use just one scrubber to clean all the areas of my bathtub.  And since I never really even have to time to use it, it doesn’t have to be cleaned that often!

And lastly, the dreaded toilet.  I refuse to clean toilets…most of the time.  My husband and I made an arrangement years ago, that he would do the toilets.  I just can’t.  I mean, I can if I HAVE to, but it takes an hour-long pep talk.  There is just something so wrong about putting my hand in a toilet.  But, now I don’t have to.  My husband says out of all the bathroom cleaning products we received from Scotch-Brite, the Upturned Bristles Toilet Bowl Brush & Holder is his favorite.  “The bristles pointing upward takes all the hard work out of it, the bristles take care of all the under-the-rim work.”  Lets just say that I’ll be happy just taking his word for it.

Scotch-Brite offers cleaning tools for each area of the home.  When you have the right tools for the job, while cleaning is still tough work, I’ve found the job gets done much quicker.  And when I can spend more time with my family instead of cleaning, I’m one happy mommy.
