Needing help with half bath reno ideas!!
LAYOUT DESCRIPTION DUE TO NOT HAVING PHOTOS:
Okay, so my home is a 1985 colonial, and our main floor layout is a bit awkward. The front door opens into a foyer, to the left is the formal dining room, to the right is 1 of 2 entrances into the great room, as well as the stairwell. Continue forward and you will see the back doors which are located in our kitchen. If you then go right from our kitchen, there is a tiny hallway that leads to the 2nd entrance to our great room. Now... here is where it gets awkward. Our great room is rectangular with a fire place in the middle of the exterior wall (you can see the fireplace from the kitchen), there is also a half bathroom located between the kitchen & great room with the door opening up into the great room. Across of the half bathroom door, is the door to the utility room. I do not mind the utility room's placement, however I'm becoming more and more bothered with the half bath. It is the only bathroom on the main floor, and there is no other location that would be any more sensible as there is a coat closet under the stairwell in the foyer which is already pretty small.
When you open the bathroom door from the great room, to the left is a vanity with sink, medicine cabinet above and to the right is the toilet which is directly below an exterior window. Now, originally my husband and I discussed relocating the door to the kitchen since our family room is very difficult to layout with furniture due to the door ways that need access, however we agreed that it was far more uncomfortable to have the bathroom off the kitchen than a family room. Than I began to think about moving the door to where the vanity/sink are currently located, which would put it in the tiny hall way between the kitchen and great room, this way the bathroom would not be in direct sight of either entertainment spaces. My questions are:
A) Has anyone relocated the door to a half bath/powder room in a similar fashion?
B) If we did this, it would make the half bath appear small/narrow with the toilet directly in front of you, so what would be the best layout for the sink as the width would only be approx 33"?
