Get Your Bathroom Organized With These 4 Easy Steps

Whether it’s a tiny powder room or a luxury master bath, any bathroom becomes more attractive when it’s clean and organized. And the good news is, there are some simple, practical principles that can help you make the most of any bathroom’s space.

Consider these tips for organizing your bathroom, no matter its size.

1. Declutter

To truly organize your bathroom, start by cutting down the stuff you have to store. Set aside time to go through everything—from hair products to towels to shower caddies—and separate everything into piles of what you will keep, trash, and give away. Products that are old or unusable — or even products that you just don’t like — should go into the trash bin. Products that are unopened but that you won’t use, or products that are perfectly functional, but outdated, can be donated. Items that serve no purpose, such as that shower caddy you used in college, can be donated or trashed as well.

This step takes a bit of time, but when you’re done, you’ll have minimized the amount of stuff in your bathroom, saving you time in the next steps and making the space feel renewed and spacious.

2. Categorize

Now that you’ve gotten rid of everything you don’t want or need, take a look at what’s left. Look at all the items you’ve decided to keep, and group them in the following three categories: the things you use every day, things you use every week, and things you use only very rarely.

Your most frequently used items can go somewhere highly accessible, like on the counter, or in a top drawer. Items you use regularly, but not as often, can go into areas that are a little farther away, such as second drawers or linen cabinets. Rarely used items are the things you’ll keep in the uppermost or lowermost cabinets, like that one under the sink.

If you’re short on storage, consider adding shelving. You could add a toiletry shelf above the bathroom door, for example, for those extras that you won’t mind stepping on a stool to reach a few times a year.

3. Invest in storage tools

Look into various storage options that will work in your space from towel rods to shower caddies. Based upon what you want to store, choose the products that will accommodate your bath products and toiletries, while also adding to the aesthetic value of your space. You might add a stand-alone shelf or rack above the toilet, caddies under the sink, drawer organizers to cabinetry and/or washcloth-suction hooks in the shower. 4. Clean and shine

Never neglect the value of a clean bathroom space.
