When you think of Christmas decorating and holiday entertaining, I’m sure bathrooms aren’t high on your list.

But if you’re doing any holiday entertaining this year, you need to start thinking now about getting your bathrooms guest ready. A clean, well-stocked, pleasant bathroom is the ultimate in hospitality.
Make Any Necessary Repairs
First off, make sure all the your plumbing fixtures are in good working order.
If your toilet seems to runs constantly, now might be the time to replace the flapper yourself. If you have problems that are beyond your DIY skills, call in a plumber to address them.

Check your faucets, toilet seats, shower heads, shower curtain rods, towel bars and toilet paper holders to see if they need to be tightened, repaired or replaced.
Give the Bathroom a Deep Cleaning
To get the bathroom guest ready, you need to give it a deep cleaning.
I like to take everything out of the room and clean from ceiling to floor.
I use an extension duster to reach the ceilings and to dust light fixtures, then I work my way down, cleaning mirrors, scrubbing the sink and countertops, tub, shower and toilet before vacuuming and mopping.

We have hard water, so I like using the new Scotch-Brite® Disposable Toilet Scrubber to get the toilet bowl super shiny.

The flexible head is shaped to access stains hidden under the rim, and the built-in bleach alternative cleaner with pumice helps you away rust and hard water stains easily.
Now’s a great time to buy the scrubber and stock up on Scotch-Brite Disposable Toilet Scrubber Refills at Target. Look for an instant redeemable coupon on each product to save $2. Plus, you can save 15 percent through Nov. 12 when you use the Cartwheel app.
Make Sure the Bathroom is Well Stocked
Whether your guests are just coming for a meal or staying overnight, make sure the bathrooms they will be using are well stocked with essentials.
This includes toilet paper, tissue, soap, air freshener, towels and any toiletries and medicines they may need.
Try to anticipate their needs and provide accordingly, especially for overnight guests.
I always include a basket of sample-size toiletries for our overnight guests, including anything I think they may have forgotten. I also love to provide them with handmade soaps, lotions and beauty products they can use here or take home with them.
Add Decorative Touches
To give your bathroom a festive, seasonal look, add some simple and inexpensive decorative touches.

In our small guest bathroom, I switched out the rug for a red medallion rug for Christmas.

I also added a fresh hand towel and some plaid accents.

I hung a wreath on the door and added some decorative accents to a small table in the space.

Finally, I switched out the artwork with my favorite no-cost trick.

I printed out three free images from The Graphics Fairy (a Christmas amarylis, a snowy hummingbird scene and some vintage Christmas bunnies) and popped them in some frames I bought at Target.
Make Sure it Smells Nice
No one wants to use a stinky bathroom!
The deep cleaning will help with that, but don’t forget to add seasonal candles and room sprays to your bathrooms for the holidays. Fresh flowers are another great addition.

Guests will appreciate having a fresh-smelling bathroom when they enter and when they leave.
I added a some 6-inch and 3-inch apple cinnamon candles and red and green mercury glass candles from the Kindred Christmas collection from Target for the holidays.
You don’t want your guests to be embarrassed by any scents they may leave behind, so candles and room fresheners are key.
And speaking of embarrassment, if your guest bathroom happens to be centrally located in your home, you might want to add a radio or MP3 player. Create a playlist of holiday tunes. The music will mask any noises and give your guests more privacy.
