Waterproofing the Shower Benches

When the contractor waterproofed our shower pans he was also supposed to waterproof the shower benches.

The difference in levels (most noticed on the right side of the photo) has been leveled out.The waterproofed master shower.

He came back to apply a different kind of waterproofing to the shower benches.

I fairly sure the bench in the shower is supposed to be waterproofed.Both the conservatory and master bathroom showers have built in benches.

First he applied a flexible waterproof caulk in a tube to all the corners of the benches.

Flexible caulk was applied to the corners before the RedGuard was rolled on.Flexible caulk was applied to the corners before the RedGuard was rolled on in the conservatory shower.

Then he covered the entire area and up the wall above the Kerdi with a waterproof membrane called RedGard.

The RedGard paints on with a roller and/or brush.

It’s pink when wet and dries to a dark red.

The installer told us that these two flexible waterproofing materials make a very secure base for tile.
