Dressed To Impress: Stylish Window Treatments

Gambar
Window treatments have been MIA of late, but they’re starting to make their return. Chrissie Jeffery, creative director at textiles shop No Chintz, gives us her expert advice on choosing window treatments that will frame your windows nicely and add polished style to your home too. Photographer: Armelle Habib Stylist: Julia Green   PLANTATION SHUTTERS “These are less window furnishings and more an architectural feature,” says Chrissie Jeffrey of No Chintz. Shutters are chic and smart, and allow light and air in while maintaining privacy. They’re good in situations where curtains might not fare so well, such as bathroom windows. Consider using them in a boy’s room, if a fabric option isn ’t the right fit, or to disguise an ugly outlook. “Shutters let in a lot of light, so if you wanted to soften the brightness you’d be better going for a translucent roller blind ,” advises Chrissie. “ Shutters don ’t provide full block out for sleeping, but are good light filters .” Shutters are adju...

Catapult | Catapult | Talking to My Daughter About Charlottesville

My first time was innocuous, free of hatred or pity, a thought beginning and ending with curiosity alone. Twenty-nine years ago, Molly Johns and I met on the playground outside our kindergarten classroom, back when you could still eat peanut butter cookies in school and no one knew there was sugar in chocolate milk. One day, she and I walked into the bathroom separately and left holding hands . We stayed that way for much of the year, best friends, rarely speaking a word to each other. My memory here is certain but not sharp: I am passing the playground’s plastic slide, and Molly’s arm is there, close to mine, and her arm is not the same as my arm. And here I confess: I want that for my daughter. I don’t want to shield her, exactly; I want to hand her an heirloom, bequeath a moment of acknowledging race on her own terms, before the world rushes in to lay it all bare. I want for my girl to have just one she’s-not-the-same-as-me moment. Then I want the curtains to close, and I want the ...

Mike and Sara Rehab a 60s Retro Ranch : Vintage Poodles Invade the Hall Bathroom!

May 2, 2017 Mike and Sara Rehab a 60s Retro Ranch : Vintage Poodles Invade the Hall Bathroom! By Sara In AZ Decorating….the FUN part!!! But first, I don’t know if y’all remember the original toilet that we had in place – it was this newer American Standard toilet . I wish I knew what happened to the original toilet ?! Anyway, I just really thought the space would look better with a “vintage” toilet……I love the squared off tanks and footprint of older toilets – so we headed down to our local salvage place to hunt! Luckily, we found this white Kohler for $40 that fit the bill perfectly! Now, let’s bring on the poodles! Oh my gosh, I was SOOOOO excited about this you have no idea! I’ve had all my vintage poodle stuff boxed up for almost 3 years now….. just waiting for this bathroom to be finished so that I could bring it all out. It was like Christmas day unwrapping all the poodle stuff! We hung a cabinet above the toilet so I’d have a safe place for most of my spaghetti poodles . ...

How To Keep Your Dorm Room From Looking Like Bed, Bath & Beyond

Gambar
For many, back-to- school shopping means creating a home away from home: The dorm room. So, how do you make that room yours when you're working with ugly, standard-issue furniture and very little cash? Avoiding the generic, drab, crappy-chic look is a challenge, but with a little ingenuity — and a clear concept — it's easy to make a space that reflects what you love. Advertisement For me, decorating can be a lot like getting dressed: I start with something I like, and build around it. In my current apartment, I really wanted to hang a picture of shoes on the wall — my red heels next to my boyfriend's black and white oxfords. Once I decided that, black and white and red were "my colors." The red couch and black and white zebra rug fell into place, and, when shopping, I didn't even look at anything blue, pink, orange or green. Colors that flatter your skin tone are going to look great when you're surrounded with them — when you start living in the glow of...

DIY Bathroom Remodel - Before & After

Gambar
The bathroom is finished! Woohoo! I’m so excited to be done!  I now have two whole rooms that are completely finished in my house.  😀  And they just happen to be the two most challenging — a total gut and remodel of a kitchen and a bathroom.  The rest of the rooms should feel like a walk in the park after these! I started this remodel on January 22nd — almost exactly six months ago — and have been working on it off and on since then. I took a break during my father-in-law’s two-week visit in March, another break during my two- week blogging break , and yet another break while I finished up the condo. So if I had to guess, I’d say it took an actual three-and-a-half months of work. But IT IS DONE!! DIY bathroom remodel with tile floor, stained wood slat ceiling, DIY vanity, recessed panel walls, and bi fold closet doors used as double doors" width="480" height="720" /> And since I regularly have people ask me, “Do you actually do all of the work yourself?” ...
