Leaking pipes | MLive.com

Q. Our basement bathroom looks like a crime scene. The bathmat and tile have been stained by rusty water dripping from the pipes above. Those pipes are for the first floor bathroom. It happens every time someone takes a shower and doesn't use the fan, or when it's summer and humid indoors. There are also infrequent drips that happen at any time. There are smaller brown pipes and larger pipes that have been painted years ago . The large pipes are causing the problem. The paint on the pipes has mostly worn off and rusty metal remains . Plus, there are some rusty galls that seem to ooze water from time to time. Is there something we can patch the oozing portions with? And what can we do about the dripping pipes ? Maybe paint them so they don't drip rusty water ? A.M. Ann Arbor. A. The large pipes in the ceiling of your basement bathroom are drain pipes from the bathroom above. Some may be cast iron; others might be galvanized steel. Either way, holes are starting to develop ...

Randomised controlled trial of thermostatic mixer valves in reducing bath hot tap water temperature in families with young children in social housing

Gambar
Introduction Approximately 2000 emergency department attendances and 500 hospital admissions following bath water scalds to children occur in the UK each year.1 Admissions mostly occur in children aged under 5 years, often involving prolonged inpatient stays , transfer to a specialist hospital or burns unit.1 The cost of treating a severe scald has been estimated at £250<TS, thin space here>000.1 Longer- term effects include disability , disfigurement or psychological harm. What is already known on this topic ▶ Hot bath water scalds are an important public health problem ; their incidence has not declined over recent years. ▶ Thermostatic mixing valves (TMVs) have the potential to reduce scald risk but there have been no randomised controlled trials assessing their effectiveness and acceptability to families. What this study adds ▶ TMVs and educational leaflets are effective in reducing bath hot tap water temperature in the short and longer term and are acceptable to famil...

Are Access Panels Required for Bathtub Plumbing Access?

If you don't have an access panel behind the tub and shower when problems arise, you'll wish you did. Without it, the only way to fix the plumbing is to cut a hole in the wall. If the wall is tiled, and you have a plumber, you'll be paying him to make a big mess in the bathroom. Despite this, the lack of an access panel is not a code violation in most circumstances. Tub and Shower Plumbing Most modern tub and shower valves can fail, but even so, once they are properly soldered to the water pipes, the plumbing code allows you to cover them. An exception is when the valve has an extra mechanism, such as a water pressure regulator , that you can adjust. In that case, you must provide a removable access door . If you have such a device that isn't part of the tub and shower valve proper , then the door must provide access to the device. This requirement applies to auxiliary shut-off valves. They must remain accessible no matter where you install them. Other Special Circum...

Skeptoid answers another round of questions sent in by students.   by Brian Dunning Filed under Feedback & Questions Skeptoid Podcast #268 July 26, 2011 Podcast transcript | Download | Subscribe Listen: http://skeptoid.com/audio/skeptoid-4268.mp3 Although I ran, I've again been caught by students from around the world, and peppered with questions about what's science and what's silly. Today's classroom asks about the usefulness of those popular caffeinated energy shots ; the various Internet myths about sunscreen products; the meaning of the word "information" when thermodynamics are invoked to prove creationism; companies that claim to offer the secrets of suppressed miracle cures for cancer; and whether drinking hot water from the tap is as risky as some rumors say it is. Let's get started with energy shots, from a young man in southern California: Hi, Mr. Dunning. What's your take on those 5- Hour Energy Shots , and how they affect the u...

SHOWER MIXER TAP REPAIR

Gambar
(Mixer taps) A tap with separate hot and cold inputs and having a single output. The inputs can be adjusted to give the required temperature and flow. n. 1. A tap at a sink which delivers both hot and cold water. This is not as common as an American would expect. There is a law in the U.K. which requires that mixer taps do not actually mix the water inside the tap itself, but it must be mixed outside in the air. A tap is a valve controlling release of liquids (faucet and spigot are the terms used in the U.S.) or gas. In the British Isles and most of the Commonwealth, the word is used for any everyday type of valve, particularly the fittings that control water supply to bathtubs and sinks. In the U.S. A mass of small things falling or moving at the same time A large number of things happening or given to someone at the same time lavish: expend profusely; also used with abstract nouns; "He was showered with praise" A brief and usually light fall of rain, hail, sleet, or snow...
