Living With Ichthyosis | HealDove

What Is Ichthyosis? For those who don't know what Ichthyosis is, I will begin this article with a definition from FIRST (Foundation for Ichthyosis and Related Skin Types ): "Ichthyosis is a family of genetic skin disorders characterized by dry, scaling skin that may be thickened or very thin. The prefix "ichthy" is taken from the Greek root for the word fish. Each year, more than 16,000 babies are born with some form of ichthyosis. Ichthyosis affects people of all ages, races and gender. The disease usually presents at birth, or within the first year, and continues to affect the patient throughout their lifetime." I myself was diagnosed when I was 6 years old, and as annoying as it is being compared to a snake, fish, or any other creepy amphibious being, that is the right term to describe it. That aside, Ichthyosis—even mild types like Ichthyosis Vulgaris—are hard to manage and control. I am going to tell you how I manage my Ichthyosis and hope that it helps o...

Choosing Bathroom Fixtures - A Concord Carpenter

Gambar
Choosing Bathroom Fixtures By Sarah Carmichael on Bathrooms By Sarah Green Carmichael Using American Standard fixtures On a Bathroom Remodel Bath fixtures might not be the first thing you think of when you start your bathroom renovation — most people start by thinking about the big things, like layout, tile, and vanities — but they are an important aspect of the finished product. Essentially, they’re like the jewelry you choose to complete the perfect outfit : a finishing touch that classes up the whole look, making it feel finished and polished. Avoid Choice Paralysis And yet if you suffer from choice paralysis — the phenomenon whereby having too many options results in an inability to choose anything — choosing bath hardware is almost guaranteed to cause a flare-up. A visit to a bath showroom or big box home store retailer can quickly overwhelm with options. And since of course bath fixtures are about function as much as form, there can be a lot of factors to consider. Classic ...

Rioters On How To Make Time For Reading

One of the questions I get asked the most is “how do you find time to read so much?” I have small kids, a full time job, and a writing habit that I sustain, but reading is one of those things that I need, like water and sunlight. When I stop picking up books, my mental health is affected, so I’ve had to find ways to make the time. My best trick is to bring a book with me on the elliptical machine– the exercise and chance to dive into a story both leave me feeling strong and happy. Recent Book Riot Insiders newsletters gave a peek into the day-to-day of Book Riot back office superstars , and I loved hearing how they crafted time in their schedules to read.  It made me wonder how other voracious readers feed their habit. Whether you’re looking to up your reading time or you already have a day packed with bookish goodness, this look into the time-saving tricks of other Rioters is interesting! Bathroom Remodel - Installing a Faucet and Sink

Gambar
This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Moen, Incorporated for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.  The bathroom remodel continues , this time we are replacing our old sink and faucet. I’m really excited about his part, you’ll see why… So here is the previous vanity. It’s bottom of the line apartment chic , not to mention too small for the space. There was a few problems with our current faucet/sink. First, it was disgusting (I say was because it’s currently sitting on our front porch). The counter/sink (it’s one solid piece) had a sand-papery texture which makes it impossible to clean. I thought it was mineral build-up, but tons of vinegar and cleaners had no effect on it. Second, the faucet leaked so bad that Adam had to shut off the hot water valve to keep it from dripping constantly. He did that TWO YEARS ago. We’ve just never gotten around to messing with it again. Lastly, the faucet squeaked like you wouldn’t believe. It squeaked so bad that when you used it i...

The Gentle Art of Poverty

I am an old man in his sixtieth year. I have entered that decade of life which destroys the last illusion and beyond which lies death, swift or lingering, actuarial or real. I am also poor, incontrovertibly, humiliatingly poor, for the first time in my life. My total annual income , from a modest pension ($1980) and the interest ($168.75) from an equally modest savings account , is 6 percent of what I earned in my prime-and less than two thirds of the property tax I once paid on a five-bedroom home with swimming pool in Westchester County, New York. I am divorced and living alone in an alien city of 800,000 strangers. My aging body betrays me day by day; the ground I am losing now I lose forever. So I perceived myself, at any rate, when the plane from a foreign country dropped me in San Diego one night seven months ago. Behind me stretched an aimless, six-year, expatriate trail through the South Seas, Asia, and Latin America that began when divorce and its inevitable byproducts-seco...

Everything You Need to Survive the Communal Bathroom

Gambar
We all know that moving into a college dorm means sharing your room with a brand new roommate. Pretty cool, right? But we can’t forget about that other space you’ll have to start sharing …One that maybe isn’t  so exciting. That’s right — we’re talking about the communal bathroom. Take a look at what you’ll need to survive this space. A robe. A robe is  much more comfortable than making the run from your room to the showers in just a towel. Imagine trying to hold up a towel while you’re also hauling your shower caddy down the hall. Or, even worse, imagine the fire alarm goes off! Trust us…A robe is a must. Cheap flip flops. While the bathrooms are cleaned regularly, we still doubt you’ll want to walk across those floors and showers barefoot. A simple cheap pair of plastic flip flops will do the trick — nothing fancy! A few towels. College gets busy. Before you know it, your hamper is overflowing and it’s been weeks since you’ve done your laundry. Make sure you have quite a few towe...
