Summer Pregnancy Survival Guide

Comfort Essentials & Summer Tips First-time mom-to-be Deanna Moran found the New York humidity to be uncomfortable and overwhelming during her summer pregnancy . "You are always hot and no matter how high the air conditioning is turned up it just is never good enough," she said. Like the over 1 million expectant moms last summer, according to the National Center for Health Statistics, Moran found that being pregnant during the hot and sticky days (and nights) of summer had its downsides. But Dr. Sara DuMond, a mom and pediatrician in South Carolina, says that there's a definite plus to carrying during this time. "Delivering in a warm weather month means that both mom and baby will be able to get fresh air, which can be vitally important," DuMond says. In a traditional infant tub , he liked bath time, but would get cold after a few minutes and wanted out. I was given the opportunity to try the Summer Infant Warming Waterfall Bathtub and with this tub, the gentle waterfall circulates the water down the baby’s back and keeps him or her comfortable and warm. The oversized washcloth that comes with the tub can be placed over your little one’s chest to prevent chills and keep him or her nice and warm. The newborn bolster provides a soft cushion for support. The unique waterfall feature is perfect for those early days and baby’s first baths. When we tried it, my son was out of the early newborn phase but still enjoyed reclining on the waterfall sling ...

When a Second Pregnancy Focuses on the Toddler

In our new series Pregnancy Diaries , we ask expecting women to jot down every pregnancy-related detail of their lives for a week. (Special thanks to New York mag and Refinery29 for the inspo.) Work-related conundrums, struggles with IVF, and a whole lot of nausea, ahead. For our eighth entry, we have a 33-year-old part-time publicist from Connecticut who’s 25 weeks along. She and her husband of almost eight years have a “spirited” two-and-a-half-year-old girl, and don’t know the sex of baby number two.  How long did it take you to conceive?  It took just a couple of months to conceive baby #2. My cycle has tended to fluctuate month-to-month since having my daughter, so it was a bit of a challenge to track accurately. We’ve been incredibly fortunate and have not experienced any fertility issues to-date. Any other details relevant to your pregnancy? Our daughter was born three weeks and one day early, and I gave birth less than three hours after my water broke. This is known as precipit...

7 Bad Decisions I Can't Believe I Made When I Planned My Baby Shower

Gambar
When I was pregnant, hopeful, and excited to do all the parenting things, I had so many plans. My daughter was the first grandchild on both sides, and after the initial shock of the pregnancy wore off I had plenty of volunteers to plan along with me. With my second, however, the planning was all on me. Looking back, there's definitely some bad decisions I made when planning my baby shower — things I wish I could go back and do over. I assumed things would be similar the second time around but, well, I was wrong. Pregnancy with my youngest was something my partner and I planned and hoped for, and not just for a few months but for a few years. When I was finally pregnant, though, the only two people who seems to be considerably excited were my partner and I. We decided we'd still have a baby shower, though. It had been almost five years since we had our daughter, and we were preparing for a boy this time around so we wanted to facilitate an opportunity for people to give us ...
