DIY Removable Cedar Shower Floor Mat

Gambar
Happy Monday, all!  Remember last week when I said I had a project in mind for the shower in my tiny little bathroom?  Well, it’s (almost) finished!  I made a removable cedar shower floor mat . Removable Cedar Shower Floor Mat " src="http://www.addicted2decorating.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/cedar-shower-floor1.png" width="457" height="690" /> I was inspired by some of these (obviously much higher end and super expensive) wood shower floors . If you’ve been around here long at all, you know I love the warmth that wood adds to a room.  All of the countertops in the condo (kitchen, living room bookcase wall , bathrooms) are wood. But also, this project was kind of a test run for the house.  You see, I’m trying to come up with a solution for a shower that is easy to use for Matt when we get around to remodeling the master bathroom in the house. For those of you who don’t know, Matt (my husband) has M.S. and is in a wheelchair.  So when we get aroun...

How to Install a Shower Pan

Gambar
Photo: wayfair.com The shower pan is an unsung hero in cramped bathing quarters that rely on a walk-in shower instead of a full-size bathtub. Its role? Protecting your subfloor from water damage by aiding drainage. This waterproof floor covering —often made of fiberglass, acrylic, or tile—slopes just enough to direct water toward the drain in the floor, thus eliminating most problems caused by lingering water, from mold and mildew growth to structural issues like wood rot. Whether you’re remodeling a bathroom to include a shower pan where none existed before or replacing one that’s seen its day, basic plumbing skills and a free weekend are all you need when learning how to install a shower pan. Why Switch to a Shower? Many homeowners choose a shower (and thus a shower pan, because you can’t have one without the other) over a bathtub when renovating in order to increase the available floor space and make the bathroom feel larger . Walk-in showers tend to be sleeker in style than boxy ...

After extensive research we decided the KBRS Tile-Basin® would be a good fit for one of Steve’s clients. First off, there are no seams in the pan. Plu...

Master Bathroom Days 5-7: Shower Pan Preslope and Liner

One of the options when installing a tile shower is to use a pre- made fiberglass shower pan (which is exactly what I ripped out of my original shower ) but I didn't want that look, or to be constrained by the dimensions that are available.  I wanted a 'custom' shower. Therefore I settled on a " deck mud shower floor " which is made of multiple layers of cement with a PVC liner in between them.  I wouldn't call this a starter DIY project , but if you are even a little bit comfortable with working with mortar, it is completely doable by the average homeowner. Diagram courtesy of Oatey The quoted price I got for someone to just pour the floor and install the liner (not including any of the previous work I had already completed, or anything to do with the shower walls) was a little under $1000.  Yeah.  For that money I knew I could do it myself.  There are a TON of great tutorials out there about how to install a shower floor.  The method I used is most accurate...
