NY Times flubs 'bathroom laws' concerns

In both a post by the editors and an op-ed piece by Frank Bruni, the New York Times dismisses the concerns about transgendered men putting demands on policies that require keeping the sexes separate in public. To start, the editorial quotes a sheriff from South Carolina who says it’s a non-issue. “In the 41 years I have been in law enforcement in South Carolina, I have never heard of a transgender person attacking or otherwise bothering someone in a restroom,” Sheriff Lott wrote in a letter to the committee studying the state’s bathroom bill. “This is a non-issue.” Wrong.  Perhaps the editors and the sheriff would like to view a twenty- minute video offering case after case  of the sort of sexual predators for whom the transgender laws will serve as a green light.  One big bruiser, dressed in a curly old lady wig, a pink sweater, and a flowered skirt, walked into a facility, and when a woman challenged him, he sucker-punched her and knocked five teeth out.  The video sp...

Women Detained in Federal Immigrant Center Complain of Feeling Unsafe

Gambar
As men are moved into a federal immigrant detention center in Pennsylvania, mothers who usually make up the majority of its residents say they feel uncomfortable and unsafe.  By telephone from the Berks County Residential Center in Leesport, one detained immigrant mother repeated the word “fear” over and over. She said she was scared “that something is going to happen here,” and asked to speak anonymously, afraid of retaliation. The center, which provides lodging for  immigrant families as they await deportation, typically houses primarily mothers and children who have been denied asylum, with a few fathers with children sprinkled in. It is one of three family detention centers in the country. But after 10 families who had stayed long-term at the facility were deported in May, men and their children replaced them, said Karen Hoffmann, a legal advocate for immigrants at Berks.  Harvey the Hawk Rescued and in Recovery Gender ratios vary at the Berks County-run facility, which makes...

Christians and Feminists Unite Against Transgender Bathroom Policy

Politics, it has been said, makes strange bedfellows ; and what could be stranger than an alliance of Christian pro-family activists and radical feminists? Yet that is precisely what has occurred in response to the Obama administration’s attempt to force schools to open up sex- segregated private spaces to “transgender” individuals. The Family Policy Alliance (FPA), a public- policy partner of Focus on the Family, has joined with the Women’s Liberation Front (WoLF), which describes itself as “a radical feminist organization dedicated to the total liberation of women,” to oppose the administration’s “ bathroom policy .” That policy, articulated last year in directives from the Justice and Education Departments, requires schools that receive federal funding under Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 to allow individuals identifying as transgender to use the bathrooms, locker rooms, and other sex-segregated facilities of their choice, regardless of their biological sex. Schoo...

AARON BROWN, CNN ANCHOR: Good evening again. I'm Aaron Brown. Those of you who get the daily e-mail know I seem to be in a bit of a mood today. I hate that. It's just something about the week. The Middle East is always a tough one. The sides are so passionate and so certain. And this was a difficult week there. But it was more than that. Too many kids are dying. And while I know the statistics and I believe them, our kids are in no greater danger now, the fact is that too many, even if too many is just the average number, are dying. There was Samantha Runnion and today, this child in Missouri, Casey Williamson. There's a story I did in the newsbreak tonight about a kid in Florida who was swimming in a lake and contracted a deadly disease. And then, not far away in another lake, another kid, a different d...
