Born in the offices of architects, the design upheaval is quieter than the noisy public debate over gender bathroom equality , but designers are clearly bending to political winds and client demand. Public space is being changed for generations to come. New designs without gender labels are already showing up around the country. The Fourth, a restaurant in New York City’s East Village, has only a single restroom , featuring three private, floor-to-ceiling stalls labeled “unisex,” three labeled “women” and one for the handicapped. RICHMOND, Va. – Lawyers for transgender teen Gavin Grimm have set aside part of his case against the Gloucester County Public Schools . After spending years fighting all the way to the Supreme Court, Grimm’s lawyers filed to drop the appeal seeking an immediate end to the district's bathroom policy . This comes after judges with the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond ruled that the 18-year-old may not be able to pursue the case anymore since he graduated high school in June. The ACLU said Grimm's decision now clears the way for them to litigate his case based on Title IX discrimination . Grimm was born a female, but has identified as male since his freshman year in high school. According to court documents, Grimm used the boys’ restrooms at the school for approximately seven weeks without incident. In both a post by the editors and an op-ed piece by Frank Bruni, the New York Times dismisses the concerns about transgendered men putting demands on policies that require keeping the sexes separate in public. State University selected a light-filled and airy design. The site and program called for deep floor plates , so the Building Team devised a dramatic open staircase as a central feature to help break up the density. 'Bathroom Bill' on agenda for Special Session in Texas. AUSTIN - With three days left in the Texas Legislature Special Session , Texans, organizations, and lawmakers are continuing to speak out on the bathroom bill.  The two bills filed during the Special Session related to bathroom privacy are Senate Bill 3 (SB3) and House Bill 46 (HB46). SB3 requires people in state, city and county buildings and public and charter schools use multiple occupancy bathrooms , locker rooms and showers according to the sex on their birth certificate or state- issued identification card or CHL. HB46 states cities , counties and school districts can't create and enforce their own policies regarding the use of multiple occupancy restrooms , showers and locker rooms. Politics, it has been said, makes strange bedfellows ; and what could be stranger than an alliance of Christian pro-family activists and radical feminists? Yet that is precisely what has occurred in response to the Obama administration’s attempt to force schools to open up sex- segregated private spaces to “transgender” individuals. The Family Policy Alliance (FPA), a public- policy partner of Focus on the Family, has joined with the Women’s Liberation Front (WoLF), which describes itself as “a radical feminist organization dedicated to the total liberation of women,” to oppose the administration’s “ bathroom policy .” That policy, articulated last year in directives from the Justice and Education Departments, requires schools that receive federal funding under Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 to allow individuals identifying as transgender to use the bathrooms, locker rooms, and other sex-segregated facilities of their choice, regardless of their biological sex.
