As bathroom bill prospects fade, opposition grows

With prospects for transgender bathroom limits getting slimmer by the day in the Legislature, opponents kept pressing the gas pedal Tuesday , holding the latest in a series of Capitol events meant to showcase broad disapproval of the most contentious item on a special session agenda filled with hot-button issues. First, dozens of women business and community leaders from across Texas stood on the Capitol’s south steps to say they don’t feel threatened by sharing restrooms with transgender women and don’t appreciate “discriminatory” policies being made in their name. Then officials from the influential Texas Travel Industry Association abandoned months of quiet opposition, telling Gov. Texas 'bathroom bills' appearing to die out with limited time left in Special Session

'Bathroom Bill' on agenda for Special Session in Texas. AUSTIN - With three days left in the Texas Legislature Special Session , Texans, organizations, and lawmakers are continuing to speak out on the bathroom bill.  The two bills filed during the Special Session related to bathroom privacy are Senate Bill 3 (SB3) and House Bill 46 (HB46). SB3 requires people in state, city and county buildings and public and charter schools use multiple occupancy bathrooms , locker rooms and showers according to the sex on their birth certificate or state- issued identification card or CHL. HB46 states cities , counties and school districts can't create and enforce their own policies regarding the use of multiple occupancy restrooms , showers and locker rooms. New designs without gender labels are already showing up around the country. The Fourth, a restaurant in New York City’s East Village, has only a single restroom , featuring three private, floor-to-ceiling stalls labeled “unisex,” three labeled “women” and one for the handicapped.
