WASHINGTON (WHTM) – Summer Infant is recalling about 86,000 infant bath tubs because the fabric slings can detach, posing a risk of injury and drowning. The Consumer Product Safety Commission says there have been 91 reported incidents of slings detaching on the Lil’ Luxuries tubs, including 11 reports of infants who received a bump to the head. The recall involves Lil’ Luxuries Whirlpool, Bubbling Spa & Shower with fabric slings. The tubs are battery- operated whirlpool baths with motorized jets intended for use with infants and toddlers. Children are placed on the fabric sling for bathing. The tubs were sold at Toys R Us/Babies R Us and other stores from October 2012 through October 2013 for about $60. The recalled baby bath tubs are designed to bathe infants from birth to two years old, by setting the child in a fabric sling that is suspended from a white plastic frame around the top of the tub. The recall was initiated after reports of the slings detaching from the plastic attachment frame , allowing the child to fall into the side walls of the tub and underwater.
