Baby Hair Care

Gambar
Quick Hair Tips Alexandra Grablewski Whether it's thin, thick, curly, or practically nonexistent, parents love to run their fingers through their baby's hair just for the pure pleasure of it. And seeing it sticking up in the morning or slick and wet in the bath is one of those wonderful little joys of parenthood. In fact, many moms put off baby's first haircut for as long as possible, because seeing those wispy little curls fall to the floor is often the first sign that babyhood is coming to an end. But eventually (like when your baby can't see through the hair in his eyes!) some locks have to go. And beyond haircuts, there's more to baby hair care -- even if your baby hardly has any. If your baby has no hair... Care tip: Shampoo twice a week to avoid cradle cap -- oily, flaky patches of skin on the scalp. Styling tip: Hats are a must to protect baby's head from the sun -- and a bonnet or baseball cap can help strangers tell a girl from a boy. If your bab...

Best Baby Bath Tubs

Gambar
For a tiny human being, a baby can make some real big messes , from blowouts to spit-ups. And as most parents will attest, cleaning up a small, floppy, slippery newborn isn ’t without its challenges. A baby bath tub can make the job easier. While you’ll probably only rely on an infant tub until baby is about 6 months old or until she’s developmentally able to sit up, it is handy and sets the stage for making bath time fun once baby gets older and graduates to the big tub. Types Of Baby Bath Tubs • In- sink baby bath tubs : Ideal for a newborn, these infant bath tubs are smaller and fit inside or over a kitchen sink. Typically made of mesh, foam, cloth or plastic, many of these baby bath tubs are collapsible and take up very little storage space. • Basin baby bath tubs : Designed to sit on the counter, on the floor or even in your actual tub, these plastic baby bath tubs give you a lot of flexibility on where bath time happens. • Tubs that grow with baby: Not all babies are read...

Top Ten Eco-Friendly Baby Shower Gifts

Gambar
I’ve never been a big fan of baby showers (my children had Blessing Ways), and the silly baby shower games annoy me. The typical baby shower involves massive amounts of baby paraphernalia gifts that the soon-to-be mom often doesn’t really need. A friend of mine recently asked me to make a list of eco- friendly baby shower gift ideas . This list includes babywearing items , bpa-free bottles, teething toys, clothes, and beauty products for babe. You don’t have to be invited to an “eco” baby shower to give a green gift. Top Ten Eco-Friendly Baby Shower Gifts Moby Wrap Baby Carrier: This wrap is perfect for carrying newborns. It is the most comfortable baby wearing apparatus , and it keeps the baby snugly held against your body and protected from curious strangers and their germs. A short story by Philip MacCann

Gambar
Saturday Mother woke me this afternoon with sharp raps on the front room ceiling . My eyes opened wide and I shouted down in my best sensible voice. “Yes, I’m upstairs!” I had been having another flashback in my sleep and it was pleasant. I do not see myself as a bad person. I stood against my door and hurriedly pulled on my trews. Then I peeled back the edge of my rolled-down curtain and peered out through the pale yellow light . It was not the police. The kids were seated on the roof of another burnt car on the Walk. I stepped back and rubbed my face and moustache which were itchy with dry sweat. Everything was still and loud. I could hear the kids’ laughter and hammering against the car. It was vital I caught the local News on my television, though it was not yet evening. I had time to kill. From the room below I heard her panting and then a longer groan, so I went down. But why did the electric light have to be on when everyone can see us from the Walk? It was making shadows on th...

The Burning Ground | Literary Hub

The following is from Adam O'Riordan’s short story collection , The Burning Ground. The Burning Ground is a collection of eight stories about men haunted by their past: from a painter tormented by memories of a lover to a father trying to rekindle a relationship with his son. Adam O’Riordan’s poetry collection In the Flesh won the Somerset Maugham Award , awarded to the best writer under the age of 35. He is an academic director at Manchester Metropolitan University . Alannah would always come at two o’clock as she had on her first visit. But they never talked about how they might exist outside of the confines of the studio. Then at Easter a fortnight passed without her visiting. He had delayed his own trip to see his sister in Harrogate. By the third week, when two o’clock came he was pacing the studio, snapping the slats in the battered brushed-metal blind, peering down on to the parked cars on the street below. He had first met Alannah and her husband at the same party. He had...
