How to Tile a Bathroom Floor

Tiling a bathroom floor is one of the most cost- effective home improvement projects that needs moderate skills and correct materials. It’s a great way to add value to your bathroom remodel and can allow you to add upgrades like radiant heat. It’s easier than ever to source great-looking, affordable tile . Choosing the right tile color and style When selecting a tile for the floor, the color should be neutral and coordinate with your cabinetry, paint color and shower or bathtub. If your bathroom floor tends to get messy from dust and debris, consider a tile that isn’t a solid color – a variety of color changes or textures will do a better job hiding dirt than a solid color. Using a light color may contribute to a greater sense of space but that theory isn’t always true. The color choice should be more dependent upon how the color of the floor tile relates to the other colors in the room. Be sure you bring home samples of your top choices and set them on the floor next to your ot...

Today I’m sharing how to install tile flush with hardwood floors, like I did in my bathroom.  Can you believe the Jack and Jill bathroom finally has floors?  I’m making slow but steady progress.  The vanity area of the bathroom has a combination of hardwood and tile.  The room that contains the shower and toilet is all tile but it butts up to the wood in the other room.   Install Tile Flush with Hardwood Floors" /> I wanted the tile to be flush with the hardwood floors so I installed the tile on LATICRETE STRATA_MAT™ XT   .    It helps create an even transition between typical ¼” to 3/8″ thick tile and 3/4″thick hardwood flooring.  The STRATA_MAT XT replaces 1/4″ thick cement board — it’s much lighter, easier to cut and installs with just mortar (no screws required). install tile flush with hardwood floor" /> Installing STRATA_MAT XT I cut a piece of STRATA_MAT XT to fit in the powder room.  Then I test fit that piece and cut out the vent and toilet drain hole .  I...

The bathroom is finished! Woohoo! I’m so excited to be done!  I now have two whole rooms that are completely finished in my house.  😀  And they just happen to be the two most challenging — a total gut and remodel of a kitchen and a bathroom.  The rest of the rooms should feel like a walk in the park after these! I started this remodel on January 22nd — almost exactly six months ago — and have been working on it off and on since then. I took a break during my father-in-law’s two-week visit in March, another break during my two- week blogging break , and yet another break while I finished up the condo. So if I had to guess, I’d say it took an actual three-and-a-half months of work. But IT IS DONE!!
