How to Switch out Wall and Hand-Held Shower Heads

I was never quite sure whether I liked handheld shower heads or not. It always annoyed me that they moved around in their holder, or that you had to pick them up and unwind the hose in order to use them. But it wasn't until I got really frustrated with the one in my current granny-house that I began to wonder seriously what good they were. This article is about the benefits of handheld and fixed showerheads , and how to switch one out for the other. From Wall Mount to Hand-Held Shower Head Normally I would never consider switching from a wall mount "fixed" shower head to a hand held one, but for new parents or pet owners the switch can be helpful. Hand held shower heads can be used for a variety of tasks, including: Washing your dog (or cat) in the tub. Showing your child how to take a shower for the first time. Playing "spray the kid" if your child is whining about having to take a bath. Rinsing your face and hair when you're still in the tub, if you don...

Splash out on an invigorating new shower packed with high-tech features and sleek, streamlined looks Published: 17th May 2016 There’s so much to consider when buying a new shower. Will it be a big freestanding enclosure  or neat over-bath model; high-tech controls or classic levers; a wet room set-up or conventional shower tray ; a traditional shower rose or barely there, flush- fitted panel set into the ceiling? Before you decide on anything, the first step is to find out what sort of hot water system you have at home as this will determine your choice of shower. Gravity- fed water systems are common in the UK (especially in older properties) and have a cold tank in the loft and hot water cylinder in the airing cupboard – the greater the drop from the bottom of the tank to the shower head, the better the shower’s performance. If the drop is less than one metre, you can add a pump to boost the water pressure or choose a power shower with a built-in pump. Most other water systems...

What types of bathroom showers are perfect?

Types of Bathroom Showers There are several important factors to consider when choosing between an electric, power, mixer or digital shower . First, you’ll need to take practicalities into account, including your boiler type and the water pressure in your house (ask a plumber if you’re not sure) and whether several people use the water supply at the same time. To buy the best shower for you, you'll also need to consider how powerful you want the shower’s water flow to feel and how important design is to you. Whichever kind of shower you choose, to get the best price it’s always worth checking local plumbing supply stores and websites, which may have lower prices than the big chains. We’ve outlined the four main types of showers below - scroll down to browse all the information or click on these links to go straight to the section you’re interested in. • Electric showers •Power showers •Mixer showers • Digital showers Electric showers explained Electric showers heat the water as...

Bathroom Shower Stall Ideas | eHow

Whether you are upgrading your existing shower stall or adding a new one, you have many options. Consider whether this will be a daily use shower stall or one designed for occasional guests. The size and overall design of your bathroom will also play a role in what your shower stall looks like, but don't limit yourself until you've checked out all your options. Walk-in Shower For small bathrooms, designing a walk-in shower stall can make great use of existing space. For larger baths, it can keep the room feeling open and expansive. Design the entire bathroom floor in nonslip tile that slopes slightly toward the shower drain, then tile the walls around one end or corner of the bathroom up to at least 6 feet high for your shower area. If your bathroom is large, you can simply let the shower spray fall freely or place a water- resistant folding screen between the shower and other parts of the room for privacy. For smaller baths, hang a curtain to block the shower spray from ...

Running two showers at the same time. Advice please.

Gambar
John P posted on 19/2/15 at 10:49 PM Running two showers at the same time. Advice please. I've just created a new en-suite with a thermostatic shower running off the combi-boiler which has a maximum output of 31 kW. The results are fine and we can have a very good shower with plenty of flow although if we turn a tap on elsewhere you can notice a reduction in flow rate. Concern is I would like to have a similar shower in the main bathroom which could be used at the same time so when we have visitors we don’t have to avoid running both showers simultaneously. Is this going to be a problem? I did think about using a low water supply pressure electric shower connected to a small new cold tank which I could install over the bathroom ceiling. However these are quite expensive and although heating would be taken away from the combi and the flow would presumably be OK as soon as the water level in the new cold tank started to fall the ball valve would open a...

6 Easy Ways to Conserve Water {Green in 365: Bathroom}

Gambar
conserving water ." width="576" height="600" /> This is Day 119 of the Green in 365 series! So we can’t talk about going green in the bathroom without discussing the importance of conserving water . Water is one of those resources that we so easily take for granted. For the majority of us that live in the US or other first world countries, we don’t have to wonder where our water is going to come from today. We turn on our faucets and water flows in an unending stream ; we can choose scalding hot , medium tepid, or freezing cold water with the turn of a handle. We can wash our hands, brush our teeth, take a shower, flush our toilets, without giving the water necessary to perform those actions a second thought. But for millions of people around the world, their reality is vastly different. Women can’t work because most of their time and energy every day is spent seeking and gathering water. And many times, the water that they do have access too is contaminate...

The ideal temperature for every shower

A large number of scalding injuries occur in the home, particularly involving children and the elderly, and reactions to freezing or boiling water in the shower increases the risk of falls and slips. Thermostatic shower valves can prevent these accidents by regulating the temperature of the water from your shower head. They also have the added bonus of being environmentally friendlier by cutting back water heating bills because the temperature is fixed. The thermostatic valves can maintain the water temperature at all times, even if the mains supply is interrupted by someone turning on a tap or flushing the toilet elsewhere in the house. In contrast, manual shower mixers allow more control over the water temperature and flow but there is more risk of it being freezing cold or boiling hot as there is nothing to regulate it as it flows out. This could be a problem depending on the plumbing and the boiler in your property. Thermostatic shower valves can be installed in conjunctio...

Choosing Bathroom Fixtures - A Concord Carpenter

Gambar
Choosing Bathroom Fixtures By Sarah Carmichael on Bathrooms By Sarah Green Carmichael Using American Standard fixtures On a Bathroom Remodel Bath fixtures might not be the first thing you think of when you start your bathroom renovation — most people start by thinking about the big things, like layout, tile, and vanities — but they are an important aspect of the finished product. Essentially, they’re like the jewelry you choose to complete the perfect outfit : a finishing touch that classes up the whole look, making it feel finished and polished. Avoid Choice Paralysis And yet if you suffer from choice paralysis — the phenomenon whereby having too many options results in an inability to choose anything — choosing bath hardware is almost guaranteed to cause a flare-up. A visit to a bath showroom or big box home store retailer can quickly overwhelm with options. And since of course bath fixtures are about function as much as form, there can be a lot of factors to consider. Classic ...
