COLUMBUS — A 43-year-old Columbus man faces eight counts of unlawful intrusion involving two adolescent girls in connection with a police search of his family home last spring that uncovered hidden surveillance cameras planted in bathrooms that were used to spy on the young victims. The defendant, who is not being named to protect the identity of the victims, is charged with eight Class IV felonies , each punishable by up to two years imprisonment, 12 months of post-release supervision and a $10,000 fine. The local man, who is free on bond, will be arraigned on the charges Friday in district court. He is under court order not to go within five blocks of the family home and have no contact with his wife or the five children in the home, three of whom are the defendant’s biological children. My family likes to have annual summer vacations and this year it was decided we would take a river cruise in Europe, specifically the "Paris and the Heart of Normandy" itinerary that sails the Seine river in France. As men are moved into a federal immigrant detention center in Pennsylvania, mothers who usually make up the majority of its residents say they feel uncomfortable and unsafe.  By telephone from the Berks County Residential Center in Leesport, one detained immigrant mother repeated the word “fear” over and over. She said she was scared “that something is going to happen here,” and asked to speak anonymously, afraid of retaliation. The center, which provides lodging for  immigrant families as they await deportation, typically houses primarily mothers and children who have been denied asylum, with a few fathers with children sprinkled in. It is one of three family detention centers in the country.
