Philosophia/Aflo/Score by Aflo/Getty Images / Today How to Clean Your Bathtub Shower You may keep your bathtub and shower clean with a weekly once-over (or maybe even daily with a squeegee), but over time, hard water deposits , soap scum, mold, mildew and more build up. There’s nothing pretty about the science project growing in your bathroom, but you can cut through the grime with these five easy steps. We promise they’ll make your bathtub shower shine brighter than Mr. Clean’s head. Step 1: Prep & Spray Remove the shampoo, conditioner, body wash or soap, razors and other toiletries from the area. Bathroom Makeover " src="http://madincrafts.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/DIYBathroomMakeover_thumb1.png" alt="DIY Bathroom Makeover " width="700" height="1049" style="border: 0px;" /> This is such a happy post for me!  First, because our bathroom makeover project is FINALLY DONE and, second, because I don’t have to keep any of it a secret anymore.  If you follow me on instagram, you have been getting some blurry hints about the big reveal but now I can share all the DIY projects that went into transforming our “fine” bathroom into a gorgeous space. Because our bathroom was basically fine in the first place, the room just got a makeover not a renovation.  I don’t have the budget or the DIY skills to lay tile or replace a toilet.  In fact, all of the larger pieces of our bathroom were left in the room.  I didn’t even paint the walls because they had just been painted two years ago when we moved in.  That doesn’t mean I didn’t p...

Dealing with nasty grout & caulk in the apartment bathroom.

Remember the pinkish-tan/Band-Aid bathroom in my apartment? I’m still doing the best I can (short of gutting the whole thing) to make it feel cleaner, fresher and generally less awful, and my latest improvement measure was taking care of the undeniably revolting perma - mildew situation inside the bathtub/shower area. I realize the photo above might not look like much of an “after,” but let’s consider where we started: I know. It was really gross. There were loose tiles (hence the taped-up garbage bag, an attempt to keep water from getting inside of the wall) and failing grout, and nearly all of the caulk had gone permanently black . The outer layer of caulk was actually clear silicone, and I’m thinking the mildew likely came from the first layer of caulk having been applied over even older “infected” caulk without properly preparing the area first. Want to take a closer look? I’m sor...
