12 Ways to Save Money on an International Trip

Gambar
Want to have a great foreign trip , but don’t want to spend a fortune? Here are my best tips for surviving jet lag , staying hydrated and saving time and money. Take a red eye. They’re cheaper because no one wants to fly at night, but in terms of jet lag, they’re your friend. Yes, the next day you’re dragging your sorry behind around after being up all night on the plane, but when you finally crash at the end of the day, you’ll be able to sleep no matter where you are. Get going right away. On your first day, after you arrive on your red eye, make sightseeing plans that same afternoon. Otherwise you might be tempted to just collapse and sleep all day, and that will only make your jet lag worse. However, don’t plan your most important sights that day, because you’re going to be groggy. We hired a private guide to take us around Havana, Cuba on our first day, after arriving at 9 a.m. She picked us up at 1 p.m., after we had a chance to shower and a short nap. We were too tired for mus...

13 Tips for Successful Baby Travel

Gambar
Over the past 3 years we’ve learned a lot about what makes or breaks a trip with an infant. We’ve also learned that traveling with one baby is very different than traveling with two (shocking, I know). Let’s just say, I’ve gained a huge respect for those brave families that travel with 3 or 4 little ones. To you, I tip my hat. I sent her the link to our other blog Tips for Baby Travel  and later realized we haven’t written a detailed “ baby travel tips ” article on this site. We get asked this question quite often, so I thought it was about time we wrote a post dedicated to baby travel. We’ ve intentionally limited the amount of baby posts we publish on this site because we know a lot o...

The following is from Adam O'Riordan’s short story collection , The Burning Ground. The Burning Ground is a collection of eight stories about men haunted by their past: from a painter tormented by memories of a lover to a father trying to rekindle a relationship with his son. Adam O’Riordan’s poetry collection In the Flesh won the Somerset Maugham Award , awarded to the best writer under the age of 35. He is an academic director at Manchester Metropolitan University . Alannah would always come at two o’clock as she had on her first visit. But they never talked about how they might exist outside of the confines of the studio. Then at Easter a fortnight passed without her visiting. He had delayed his own trip to see his sister in Harrogate. By the third week, when two o’clock came he was pacing the studio, snapping the slats in the battered brushed-metal blind, peering down on to the parked cars on the street below. He had first met Alannah and her husband at the same party. He had...
